ACMA invites comments on Australia’s telecommunications numbering charging instruments

""

Six numbering related instruments are due to sunset in 2025. To minimise the number of separate consultations calling for submissions from stakeholders, the ACMA has combined these into 2 review processes. On 13 November 2024, as part of the first process, the ACMA released for public consultation proposed changes to the Telecommunications Numbering Plan (Numbering Plan) and other instruments.

As part of the second review process, and following targeted consultation with stakeholders, the ACMA has released 3 draft numbering related instruments (the Annual Charge, Collection of Annual Charges, and the Allocation Charges determinations) and a consultation paper for public comment.

Proposed changes to these instruments include:

  • introducing allocation charges for the new number types being proposed in the Numbering Plan
  • recommending the Annual Numbering Charge be applied to some of the new number types
  • clarifying the application process for remission of late payment penalties.

The ACMA is also consulting on the Telecommunications (Charges) Determination 2022 which also requires amendments to update references to the proposed Telecommunications Numbering Plan 2025.

Submissions to this ACMA consultation close on Friday, 24 January 2025 with a short reply-to-comment period available after this date.

The proposed draft instruments and accompanying consultation paper can be found at Have your say.
