Previous consultation: The issue

We need to remake 2 regional commercial radio licence conditions as they are due to sunset soon. These are the:

  • Broadcasting Services (Regional Commercial Radio – Local Presence) Licence Condition 2014
  • Broadcasting Services (Regional Commercial Radio – Material of Local Significance) Licence Condition 2014.

The local presence licence condition requires a regional commercial radio broadcasting licensee to maintain (at least) the existing level of local presence for the 24‑month period following a ‘trigger event’. The local content licence condition requires the licensee to broadcast, during daytime hours each business day, (at least) the applicable number of hours of material of local significance.

As both licence conditions are operating effectively and efficiently, we propose to revoke and remake these instruments with minor changes.

Full details of the proposal are outlined in the consultation paper. Drafts of the proposed instruments are also available.
