Outcome
We received 4 submissions to this consultation, which are available at the bottom of this page. On 24 March 2022, following consideration of submissions, the ACMA made the Broadcasting Services (Remote Indigenous Communities) Determination 2022. The new instrument has been amended to:
- include 14 new communities
- remove the community of Oombulgurri, which is no longer inhabited, and one instance of Pukatja (Ernabella) that was duplicated
- update or correct the entries for 9 communities.
Previous consultation: The issue
Under Section 8B of the Broadcasting Service Act 1992 (the BSA), the ACMA can classify an Indigenous community as a ‘remote Indigenous community’.
There are rules in the BSA that set out what community broadcasting licensees must do when their services are targeted to remote Indigenous communities.
Have your say
We welcome your comments on the need for, and effectiveness of, the Remote Indigenous Communities Determination.
