Third report on digital platforms’ efforts under voluntary arrangements to address disinformation and misinformation

The ACMA monitors digital platforms’ activities under the voluntary Australian Code of Practice on Disinformation and Misinformation code developed by the Digital Industry Group.

The ACMA reports to the government on the adequacy and effectiveness of the code and the signatories’ reporting activities.

The third report, released in September 2024, provides our views on the operation of voluntary arrangements 4 years since the code’s commencement and our proposed next steps. These include ongoing consultation with digital platforms to develop a framework to support reporting under the code.

Accompanying our report is a commissioned report by Moonshot, a UK consulting company specialising in the intervention and prevention of online harms. In March 2024, the ACMA contracted Moonshot to independently validate and verify potential metrics in a draft framework to support reporting under the code.
