Sunsetting of the television captioning standard

Our review found the existing standard was still working well to provide high-quality television captions to deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences and should be remade without change. On 31 August 2023, we made the Broadcasting Services (Television Captioning) Standard 2023.

The Standard requires that captions must be readable, accurate and comprehensible, so that they are meaningful to viewers who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.

The Standard is due to sunset on 1 October 2023. It must be reviewed before it can be remade or amended.

We are reviewing the Standard and want your feedback. In its current form, does it remain an efficient and effective way to ensure hearing-impaired people have meaningful access to television content through quality captions?
