Graduate program

Build a career and help shape Australia’s changing communications and media environment.

Applications for the 2025 graduate program open on Monday 4 March 2024.

About us

We regulate communications and media in Australia. Our broad remit covers:

  • internet and phones
  • TV, radio and content
  • spectrum and equipment compliance.

We set and manage rules in these sectors and take action when they aren’t being followed.

Join our graduate program

As a graduate at the ACMA, what you do each day will impact the lives of almost every Australian.

Our work is diverse and dynamic. You may find yourself working in a team to investigate complaints about radio and TV programs, or investigating telcos who don’t do the right thing.

You could work to limit harmful gambling activities online, protect Australians from scams and spam, or help shape our future working in our spectrum areas.

We also work closely with the eSafety Commissioner, which could see you helping to safeguard Australians at risk from online harm.

Don’t fancy moving to Canberra? No problem! We also have office locations in Sydney and Melbourne.

Benefits

Grow your career with the ACMA. We offer:

  • an 11-month program
  • placements in 3 work areas
  • targeted training and development
  • offices in 3 locations – Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne
  • relocation assistance
  • an inclusive and flexible working environment
  • employee and professional networks
  • executive-level mentoring
  • a starting salary of $74,257 (APS 4) with advancement to $82,739 (APS 5) upon completion
  • generous leave conditions and 15.4% superannuation contributions.

Our graduate program aims to equip you with the skills and confidence to contribute fully as part of the ACMA team once you graduate.

You’ll be immersed in meaningful work during your placements and receive training and support to develop your skills, knowledge and experience. We encourage you to embrace each opportunity and participate in guiding your own graduate experience.

We are committed to your professional growth and encourage our graduates to connect with each other and build strong relationships across the graduate cohort.

Australian Government graduate programs

The Australian Government offers graduate job opportunities across multiple disciplines. Wherever you start your public service career as a graduate, you’ll do meaningful work from day one, be asked to contribute, be recognised for your perspective and see the impact you can make in the Australian community we serve.

How to apply

We offer graduate positions in multiple streams, including:

  • Digital
  • STEM
  • Accounting and Financial Management
  • HR
  • Indigenous Graduate Pathway
  • Legal
  • Data
  • Generalist.

Applicants for the ACMA Graduate Program need to apply through the Australian Government Graduate Program (AGGP). Applying through the AGGP to one of the available streams means you only go through the application and selection process once to be considered for a range of Australian Government agencies.  Candidates who are found suitable through the AGGP process can then preference the ACMA as their preferred agency to work for.

Apply directly or find out more.

Indigenous Graduate Pathway

Indigenous Graduate Program

We are participating in centralised recruitment through the Indigenous Graduate Pathway.

As an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander you will be able to complete one application and be considered for multiple agencies and departments within the Australian Public Service (APS).

Whether you start your career with us, or somewhere else in the APS, you will do meaningful work from day one.
