The Children’s Television Standards 2009 (CTS) were due to sunset on 1 October 2019. This means they would automatically end on this date unless something was done to keep them in effect.
We applied to the Attorney-General to align the sunsetting dates for the CTS and the Broadcasting Services (Australian Content) Standard 2016, to allow us to conduct a thematic review of the children’s television requirements in both instruments.
The Attorney-General agreed to our application and the CTS sunsetting date has been extended by 2 years to 1 October 2021. This allows the current arrangements to continue while we consider new standards, which can be made at any time before that date.
