The ACMA is inviting appropriately qualified professionals to express their interest in acting as a mediator or arbitrator under the News Media and Digital Platforms Mandatory Bargaining Code.
Before mediations or arbitrations under the code can occur, the Treasurer must designate at least one digital platform corporation to participate in the code. Currently, no digital platform corporations have been designated, however the ACMA is responsible for keeping a list of mediators and register of arbitrators in the event that a digital platform is designated.
Expression of interest forms were launched today and the ACMA is encouraging people with mediation or arbitration experience and knowledge of news businesses or digital platforms to apply. There is no deadline for expressions of interest to be made to the ACMA. Those interested in submitting an expression of interest may access the expression of interest forms on the ACMA website.
Guidelines are also available to give background to the mediation and arbitration aspects of the code as well as instructions for completing an expression of interest form.
The ACMA will assess expressions of interest based on a person’s experience in legal, economic or industry matters.
The details of mediators and arbitrators providing successful expressions of interest will also be published on the ACMA website.
