Subscription video on demand services

There are rules about Australian content that subscription video on demand (SVOD) services must follow.

On 27 November 2025, Australia introduced laws to set up an Australian content requirement on major SVOD services with at least 1 million Australian subscribers. The laws also introduced obligations on SVOD services with over 250,000 Australian subscribers.

The ACMA is responsible for overseeing compliance with the Australian content requirements and will provide updates throughout 2026 on how SVOD services can prepare to report to us and meet their obligations.

At this stage regulated SVOD services, with at least 1 million Australian subscribers, for the 2026 reporting year are:

  • Apple TV
  • BINGE
  • Disney+
  • HBO Max
  • Netflix
  • Paramount+
  • Prime Video
  • Stan

The first annual compliance reports from regulated SVOD services are due on 15 February 2027. These reports will cover SVODs compliance with the Australian Content Requirement in the 2026 calendar year.
