Our latest Trends and developments in telecommunications report explores changes in Australian telecommunications in 2023–24. It highlights developments in the supply and use of telecommunications.
The way Australians use communication services continues to change. As we do more activities online, we’ve become more reliant on both wired and wireless telecommunications.
Highlights:
- More Australian adults used an internet-enabled device like a tablet or computer for voice calls.
- More Australian adults used payphones this year for calls and texts or to access free wi-fi, while use of landline phones continued to decline.
- We downloaded more terabytes of data across retail wired and wireless broadband services and there are now more mobile services in operation.
- The long-planned shutdown of 3G services across all networks is now complete.
