The Five-year spectrum outlook (FYSO) 2024–29 – covering the 5 financial years from 2024–25 to 2028–29 – provides a broad overview of trends that affect spectrum management and factors used to inform the ACMA's planning and spectrum allocation priorities. It also outlines our annual work program, with activities and milestones for the 2024–25 financial year.
Establishing each FYSO enables vital engagement with industry and the community as we set and maintain Australia’s spectrum management priorities.
The FYSO’s focus areas show that we are:
- progressing our approach to spectrum licences due to expire between 2028 and 2032
- advancing 2 bands in the spectrum planning process: adding the upper 6 GHz (6425–7125 MHz) band to the preliminary replanning stage and progressing 1.9 GHz to the implementation stage
- progressing the last 2 allocations in our program of mid-band spectrum allocations in the 3.4–4.0 GHz band to support a wide range of use-cases across Australia
- continuing to progress the allocation of licences for mobile-satellite service (MSS) in the 1980–2005 MHz and 2170–2195 MHz bands
- continuing work to allow spectrum access for satellite communications supporting technology and service innovation
- implementing relevant World Radiocommunication Conference 2023 outcomes including new frequency allocations and service identifications
- continuing our significant program of radio planning and allocation activities
- reviewing several radiocommunications instruments due to sunset.
