This paper is an update to the original document which was first published in June 2010 and then updated in September 2011.
It builds on earlier editions of the paper by including a greater exploration of non-regulatory approaches that complement the use of traditional regulatory tools. The paper reflects the ACMA’s commitment to growing its use of innovative approaches to communicate, facilitate and adopt better practice strategies, rather than imposing new regulatory obligations. This update reflects how regulatory practice is adapting over time to address the ‘new’ risks and problems arising from internet-enabled technology and service developments, and to respond to current reforms in the Australian government sector.
