International best practice for unsolicited communications

This report looks at how international jurisdictions are approaching the management of unsolicited communications.

Unsolicited Communications Research—A Study of International Best Practice was commissioned to assist the ACMA with understanding how international jurisdictions are approaching the management of unsolicited communications. Seven jurisdictions were approached about their management of unsolicited communications—the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Canada, Singapore, Japan, France and Germany.

The research informed the ACMA’s report to the minister on industry self-regulation of commercial electronic messages, the Do Not Call Register and the Integrated Public Number Database and offers insight into global trends and ways of addressing emerging challenges in unsolicited communications management.

Unsolicited calls in Australia—Consumer research was also undertaken by the ACMA to look at Australian adults’ experience of unsolicited calls.
