Fiona Cameron joined the ACMA in July 2018 and has been the Consumer Lead on the Authority since 2019. As well as contributing to the Authority’s broader work, as Consumer Lead Ms Cameron has led the ACMA’s stakeholder interaction and development of approaches to address consumer issues. In particular, Fiona has chaired the ACMA’s Scam Technology Action Taskforce, involving industry and government to explore and implement new measures to minimise scams perpetrated via phone calls and SMS. Ms Cameron has also chaired the project board oversighting the National Self-Exclusion Register.
Ms Cameron has also been an active member in the ACMA’s broader remit, in particular in relation to television and radio broadcasting, including Australian content. Significantly, Ms Cameron was the lead author on the Options Paper Supporting our stories on screen developed with Screen Australia and provided to the former government in 2020.
Quote from ACMA Chair, Nerida O’Loughlin
“Fiona brought her considerable industry and government experience to the ACMA and has made a significant contribution over the last four years.
In particular, Fiona has galvanised industry and government agencies to implement technology approaches to reduce scam calls and texts that cause considerable harm to Australian consumers.
I thank Fiona for her contribution to the ACMA’s work and to our organisation. I congratulate Fiona on her appointment and look forward to working with her in this new and critical role with the ABC.”
