Why you need an aircraft radio licence
You need an aircraft radio licence to use radio equipment on board an aircraft.
This includes planes, helicopters and hobby aircraft such as:
- ultralights
- trikes
- hang gliders
- paragliders
- gyrocopters
- gliders
- sailplanes and balloons
Aircraft radio licences do not cover equipment that is not on board or fixed to an aircraft.
Before you apply for this licence, check if the equipment you want to licence falls under an aircraft class licence.
The Radiocommunications (Interpretation) Determination 2015 defines aircraft radio licences.
