Outcome

We received one submission to the consultation. The response was supportive of the process we proposed.

We have now published frequency assignment practice (FAP) 10 and radiocommunications assignment and licensing instruction (RALI) AA1, AA2, AA3 and AA4.

Previous consultation: The issue

In 2022, we met with the Wireless Institute of Australia (WIA) to discuss how the existing coordination process could be made more transparent. We also wanted to enable Accredited Persons (APs) to issue frequency assignment certificates (FACs) in support of amateur apparatus licence applications.

The WIA agreed to document the assignment process and for the ACMA to develop a framework to enable APs to issue FACs. The proposed framework preserves the existing system where prospective licensees can seek a coordination letter from the WIA to support their licence application. It also allows for other pathways via an AP.

Frequency assignment practice (FAP)

Guideline No. 10 – Application process for amateur beacons and repeaters provides the background, overview and licence application process for licensees seeking to apply for an amateur beacon or repeater apparatus licence.

The WIA is consulting with the amateur community and APs on the technical documents that have been developed to support this process. You can direct feedback related to the technical documents to the WIA via the consultation process.
