Australian radiocommunications study groups and preparatory group

To manage Australia’s involvement in international meetings on radiocommunications, we have formed 6 Australian radiocommunications study groups (ARSGs) and one preparatory group (PG) for the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) Wireless Group (AWG). They are chaired by government or industry representatives and coordinated by us.

Australian radiocommunication study groups and preparatory group for the AWG

The ARSGs and PG AWG help to form Australian positions on issues at the regional (Asia-Pacific) and international level by:

  • Providing expert advice to the ACMA. This assists in developing Australian positions and contributions for Australian delegations to International Telecommunication Union Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R) study groups and the AWG.
  • Promoting and encouraging the development of Australian participation in ITU-R study groups and AWG matters.
  • Reporting outcomes of ITU-R and AWG meetings that are of interest to Australia.
  • Providing advice on relevant matters to other ARSGs and PG AWG.

These groups specialise in different aspects of radiocommunications. They are chaired by government or industry representatives and coordinated by the ACMA.

You can find details on how to join an ARSG or PG AWG in the forms section below.

ARSG 1: Spectrum management

ARSG 1 looks at spectrum management principles – sharing, monitoring and long-term use.

Chair

Bridget Kerans, ACMA

ARSG 3: Radiowave propagation

ARSG 3 looks at radio waves and radio noise to help improve radiocommunication systems.

Chair

Steve Salamon, University of Adelaide

ARSG 4: Satellite services

ARSG 4 looks at fixed, mobile, broadcasting and radiodetermination satellite services.

Chair

Andrew Lloyd, Fleet Space

ARSG 5: Terrestrial services

ARSG 5 looks at fixed, mobile, radiodetermination and amateur satellite services.

Chair

Glenn Odlum, Nova Systems

ARSG 6: Broadcasting services

ARSG 6 looks at broadcasting and broadcasting-satellite services.

Chair

Roger Bunch, Strategic Standardisation & Spectrum Services

ARSG 7: Science services

ARSG 7 looks at space operation systems, earth exploration and meteorology, radio astronomy and radar astronomy.

Chair

Richard Jacobsen, Innovative Electronics Pty Ltd

PG AWG – APT Wireless Group

The PG AWG considers all issues covered by the AWG. The AWG makes sure that certain aspects of emerging wireless systems meet the upcoming digital convergence era for the Asia-Pacific region. It assists the process of providing cost-effective radiocommunications solutions and helping with the transfer of technology.

Chair

Andrew Stewart, ACMA
