Regulating phone advertising & content

The ACMA plays a role in the regulation of premium and adult content phone services and, in co-operation with the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, has sought expert advice on the potential impact of new mobile telecommunications services.

Adult phone services, or telephone sex services, are those designed to provide clients with sexual gratification. Other adult information services, such as dating or chat services, do not fall within the definition of a telephone sex role in relation to these calls is to ensure industry compliance with the restricted access arrangements contained in the Telecommunications (Consumer Protection and Service Standards) Act 1999.
