The Australian Internet Security Initiative

ACMA developed the Australian Internet Security Initiative (AISI) to help address the emerging problem of ‘zombie’ computers. These computers become compromised through the secret installation of malicious software, such as a ‘trojan’, that enables the computer to be controlled remotely for illegal and harmful activities.

The AISI collects data on computers that are operating as zombies, analyses this data, and provides daily reports to participating Australian Internet Service Providers (ISPs) on the zombie computers operating on their networks. The ISPs then inform their customers that their computer is compromised and provide advice on how they can fix it.

Further information on the AISI, how to join and current participants can be found on the ACMA website.
