Vacations4you to lift its telemarketing game
Travel company Vacations4you has committed to overhaul its telemarketing practices in an enforceable undertaking accepted by the Australian Communications and Media Authority.
The ACMA launched an investigation into Vacations4you after receiving complaints from consumers claiming to have received calls from Vacations4you offering holiday vouchers, despite having their number on the Do Not Call Register.
Under the enforceable undertaking, Vacations4you must:
- Notify the ACMA before it engages any third party to conduct future telemarketing
- Keep comprehensive records of telemarketing calls that it makes or that are made by call centres on its behalf
- Ensure that any of its employees who conduct telemarketing are trained in how to meet the requirements of the Do Not Call legislation
- Ensure call centres acting on its behalf operate in accordance with the rules for telemarketing calls
If Vacations4you fails to meet the requirements of the undertaking, the Federal Court may issue orders directing compliance with the undertaking.
Members of the public can opt out of receiving unsolicited telemarketing calls and marketing faxes by calling 1300 792 958 or by visiting www.donotcall.gov.au. Complaints about telemarketing calls and marketing faxes can be made the same way.
