The ACMA has established a broad standards framework that includes regulatory arrangements covering:
- telecommunications customer equipment (CE) and customer cabling (CC)
- radiocommunications devices
- electromagnetic compatibility performance of electrical and electronic devices, vehicles and devices with internal combustion engines
- electromagnetic energy health exposure from radio transmitters.
In each case, the regulatory arrangements require compliance with specified mandatory standards, labelling with a compliance mark and the collection and maintenance of compliance documentation.
Establishing and attesting to compliance is the responsibility of the importer, Australian manufacturer or their authorised agent in Australia. The detailed requirements are set out in a series of labelling notices, one for each of the four sets of regulatory arragements.
The ACMA also manages customer cabling regulation. Cabling provider rules require cablers to register with an ACMA-accredited registrar before undertaking communications cabling work.
