Wireless & cabling requirements

Around the world, wireless devices and technologies deliver an ever-increasing range of services to city, urban, rural and remote areas.

A wireless local area network (WLAN) is the generic term used for equipment that can form data networks with other equipment over short distances (usually less than 500 metres) without the use of connecting wires.

You may need a carrier licence to operate a WLAN. A list of FAQs is available to inform your decision on WLANs. Before installing a WLAN, you should also be aware of design and security issues.

There is also specific information on phone and alarm cabling, including where to direct any complaints about cabling work.
