Class licensing
Class licensing is used by the ACMA to manage spectrum used by services which employ a limited set of common frequencies using equipment under a common set of conditions. This type of licensing involves minimum licence administration by the ACMA. A class licence sets out the conditions under which any person is permitted to operate. It is not issued to an individual user, and does not involve licence fees.
Class licences authorise users of designated segments of spectrum to operate on a shared basis. Unless otherwise specified in the class licence, the licences are effective from the day after that on which they are registered under the Legislative Instruments Act 2003.
